For all my readers who have been baffled by my (sporadic) SCO reports over the last 18 months (since I started blogging), maybe this short history lesson by Mark Wagner on ZDNet’s blogs will help you understand a bit of why I was so happy a couple of days ago when I was yelling over and over that SCO Is Toast! :)
So…Wagner asks himself Where does SCO go from here? and to be able to answer that, first he tells us where the whole thing got started, way back in the 70’s…and I’m sure that’ll help at least some of my readers to grasp WTH is this all about :) Tho…I do like his answer to his own question:
So where does SCO go from here?
In a word… NO-WHERE! Whatever
asset value they had is gone. Aside from a short list of customers,
they are no longer attractive for purchase. Novell owns the SVR4
code-base upon which SCO’s customers are dependent, putting Novell in a
great position to pick-off those customers one-by-one, (if RedHat
doesn’t get to them first!) If someone does buy-out SCO, it will be to
acquire their customer list — not much else.
And I have to agree with Mark….SCO is toast and has nowhere to go.
Anyway, go read the article, it’s short, interesting and easy to understand…then, if you get really curious about the whole thing, go through Groklaw’s archives and be amazed at Novell’s and IBM’s amazing legal teams :)

You’ve got me curious. You are right. Most don’t have a prayer against a team of lawyers like Novell’s and IBM’s.
