Well, PJ over at Groklaw is at it again, this time with a short but interesting post called Now It’s Spain and OOXML - More Standards Highjinks?.
It seems that back when the technical committee was to meet in Spain to discuss if they’d accept or not Microsoft’s OOXML as an ISO standard, MS sent (or delivered) some stuff to the members of said committee…among which was a letter from the Junta de Andalucia (which I *think* is something like the state legislature in the US, but am not sure) which supposedly supported OOXML being fast-tracked to ISO standard.
The problem is that…the letter never said that. It seems like MS hacked the letter to say what they wanted it to say, when the letter actually was in support of OpenDocument format, aka ISO/IEC 26300, and not in support of OOXML, aka ISO DIS 29500.
So…not only does MS lie to its users, its probably parters and US courts…it also lies to international standards bodies, falsifying documents written by government officials of Spain….fun, uh?
It’s always great fun to watch PJ swat the brats on the head, and I’m sure she’ll follow this up as information comes around…keep an eye on the article.
