I may be slow, but I just found this site about the coming Robert A. Heinlein Centennial - Kansas City 2007 in which there’ll be a party in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 6, 7 and 8th.

July 7, 2007 - 07/07/07! - will be the birth centennial of American
author, futurist, philosopher and spaceflight advocate Robert A.
Heinlein. The science fiction Grandmaster’s Centennial year will be
marked with a grand event on the weekend of July 6, 7 and 8 in his home
town of Kansas City, Missouri.

Now, I’m all for celebrating great writers, any way we can and want…hell, even tho I won’t be able to make it to KC for it, I’ll hoist one of my 4 bears of this year on 7/7/7 on Heinlein’s name :) But one thing I noticed on the front page was the Note from the Organizers…and it makes me think that the only good thing about having scholars involved in something is that it’s not theologians nor politicians…damn people and their crummy politics.

So…let’s get ready to celebrate Heinlein…and leave the stupid scholarly politics in the musty halls of your academia.
