Well, it seems like E Ink Corporation has been tweaking their eInk displays (like the one in the Sony Reader), making them faster and enhancing the brightness, according to a report on EETimes.

“E Ink continues to be at the forefront of the electronic paper
revolution. This is a major improvement because the electronic ink in
the imaging film switches twice as fast and the image is 20 percent
brighter,” said Russ Wilcox, president and CEO of E Ink in a statement.

Wilcox also mentioned that they are adding new sizes to the lineup. The generation of displays currently being used on devices comes only in 6 inches, while the new generation will come in 5 different sizes; 1.9 inch, 5 inch, 6 inch, 8 inch and 9.7 inch (all sizes are diagonal, as usual).

There’s also new electronics behind the displays, with a larger range of display sizes and resolutions, as well as better grayscale depth.

The new generation of eInk displays will be out this summer, so we may start to see devices out by the holiday season.

I only hope the prices go down…I still can’t convince myself that an ebook reader is worth paying 400+ bucks for, no matter how much I want one of them.
