Well, in 2005, 24 federal agencies in the US got an average grade of D-minus in matters of security. A D-minus is a grade that my parents would have beaten me for, without a doubt lol! This past year, 2006, those same 24 federal agencies managed to get a C-minus, going up a whole grade…which is a good improvement, but still…a C-minus? come on! If I got those grades in school, my parents would have grounded me for a year, minimum.

Of course, there’s a few agencies that dramatically improved from 2005 to 2006, and others that dramatically bombed in the same comparison, tho there won’t be any details about specifics until Thursday morning, soon before or soon after Rep. Tom Davis, the Virginia Republican, the ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and who started the push for the law mandating these grading requirements, releases the full results at the Center for Innovative Technology in Virginia.

As Brian explains in his post, this grading system is based in how well the agencies comply with the computer security requirements detailed in the Federal Information Security Management Act, which was enacted in 2003. Go read Brian’s post for more details, it’s well worth the time invested.
