Qualcomm has just announced yesterday that Eudora Mail, what was for many years The Email Program to use on Windows and Mac will become Open Source, with the first FLOSS release to be expected in the first semester of 2007, with the collaboration of Mozilla Foundation.
I used Eudora Pro for many years, I still have the boxes here on a bookcase…I loved that program, it was the best there was for reading mail…but…it doesn’t have a linux port, and when I moved to linux I had to find something else (ended up using gnus, which is a hell of a good email program, but…configuring it is not for the faint of heart). Now that it’s becoming a FLOSS program, hopefully it will get ported to linux…which shouldn’t be much of a pain because they are going to port it to XUL and the rest of the Thunderbird technology base.
Here’s to hoping Mozilla and Qualcomm work well together and get us an Eudora Mail worthy of the fame it had in the early 90’s.
