Well, it seems like Rich’s thinking that only I care about what Patricia Dunn and her cohorts did was wrong :) Bill Lockyer, California’s Attorney General, just filed felony charges against The Wicked Witch and four others, according to news.com

“One of our state’s most venerable corporate institutions lost its way
as its board sought to find out who leaked confidential company
information to the press,” Attorney General Bill Lockyer said during an
afternoon press conference here. “In this misguided effort, people
inside and outside HP violated privacy rights and broke state law.”

Fellow suspected criminals are Kevin T. Hunsaker, HP’s former senior lawyer; Ronald DeLia, a private detective; Matthew DePante from Action Research Group; and Bryan Wagner, believed to be a former Action Research employee.

The five prospective felons face four charges:

  • Fraudulent wire communications
  • Wrongful use of computer data
  • Identity theft
  • Conspiracy to commit the previously mentioned crimes

If you want to read the documents, here’s (in PDF) the filing and here’s the documentation in support of the filing.

Even more fun, it seems that during the press conference announcing the charges, Lockyer and his aids pointed fingers particularly at Dunn, because she was the one who pushed for the investigation.

Dunn was supposed to surrender to the authorities on either Wednesday or Thursday, but I can’t find anything saying that she did. Hunsaker did surrender on Thursday. DeLia and Wagner have said they will surrender also and will travel to Santa Clara, California within a week. The fifth accused, DePante, said his attorney hasn’t been contacted by the prosecutors.

On a different note, related to Patricia Dunn…it seems like she has advanced ovarian cancer and is scheduled to start chemotherapy today (Friday, October 6th). I hope she gets healthy…I know I’ve been badmouthing her a lot for what she did, but I do wish her good health.

UPDATE: Patricia Dunn surrendered voluntarily on Thursday (NYT link, registration required) and was booked for the four felony charges already mentioned at the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department. She’ll be facing her arraignment hearing on November 17. Also, the NYT’s article mentions that she has Stage 4 ovarian cancer and has previously survived breast and skin cancer. I hope her chemo went well (as well as it can go) this Friday.
