Ok, I admit I’m a sucker for a well-written essay, specially one that has not only style but good content…and Bruce is good at providing both.
For those that don’t know, Bruce Schneier is one of the best regarded experts on security and cryptology, and he’s also a very good writer…reading his blog is very interesting…even if I do skip all his squid posts (sea creatures hold no facination for me at all :)
If you haven’t read his blog, check the Terrorist Movie Plots stuff…it’s hilarious and scary, all at the same time.
Anyway, about the reason for this post…he’s written an essay about Bot Nets, both the good uses (like SETI@) and the bad uses (like DDoSes) and, mostly, about the bad uses that we are starting to see lately and may end up seeing in the future. Well worth a read, if you care about the security of any of your data.
And Schneier’s blog is well worth adding to your feed reader :)
