Yes! The OpenDocument format has officialy become an ISO standard, ISO/IEC 26300, which means that it can now be pushed at government entities with even more strenght…now we (the FLOSS community) can say “why use an ‘industry standard’ when you can use a real international standar?” when talking about document storage and production. This should make the Massachusetts case even stronger.
Of course, OpenOffice.org supports the ODF completely and perfectly, being as it was developed by OO.o, and is also supported by KOffice and lots of other office suits, both FLOSS and proprietary.
Now, let’s see if Microsoft will finally give in and accept that standards are important…tho I very much doubt it, history says that they don’t like standards because they are not good for their monopoly.
So…we can celebrate another victory for the FLOSS community, which hopefully will help us help others become free of monopolistic companies.
