William J. Bennett and Alan M. Dershowitz come up with strong reasons to call the american press, in more polite terms, hypocritical and biggoted. In their article on the Washington Post, A Failure of the Press, they talk about tha failings of the press when dealing with the different religious sensitibilites in an evenhanded manner. It’s ok to slam christian fundamentalists. It’s nice to make fun of Jews. But don’t mess with the muslims because….why? Bennet and Dershowitz say that it’s because the press has been intimidated by the muslim fundamentalists…I tend to agree with them on that…but would also add that it also has to do with the fact that american *society* has been intimidated by muslim fundamentalism. Fear of terrorism has, in many ways, destroyed The American Dream of Freedom for All…and the US has forgotten to listen to their own Founding Fathers, like Benjamin Franklin.
It’s a very interesting article, very well worth reading and thinking about.
